Our regional outreach information service in the South West
We try particularly hard to reach people who are isolated and have little access to information.
In the South West, we help deaf and hard of hearing people become more involved in community activities, and to have a much better quality of life.
Activities
Through our outreach information service, we provide face-to-face information across the South West by giving talks and presentations, and attending exhibitions. We try particularly hard to reach people who are isolated and have little access to information on deaf awareness issues, equipment, services and benefits.
We liaise with health, social services and residential care professionals to:
- improve awareness of the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people; and
- tell them how to improve access to the equipment and services that are available.
Our Big Lottery funded three year project (to 2010), covers Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. The project is designed to make it even easier for deaf or hard of hearing people in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset to get the information they need. We attend local information events across the community and will be recruiting and supporting volunteers to provide information to others in their local area.
