Medical students become deaf aware
In June 2004, 40 medical students from Queens University Belfast were awarded certificates of achievement after successfully completing a specialist module on deafness as part of their medical training.
Queens University committed 100 hours to the module, including 60 hours of training in British Sign Language, and 40 hours of training on basic deaf awareness and associated issues. In addition, the second year students have produced a health-related sign language dictionary.
The awards ceremony was covered by Ulster Television during primetime news.
