RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

Community based supported housing and outreach

Harkness Gardens is a community-based supported housing project in Londonderry. It caters for up to six deaf and deafblind people aged between 18 and 50 years old, who have additional special needs and require support to help them make their own way in life. The home offers long-term care and support, although residents may move to more independent settings when they have the appropriate life skills and confidence. An outreach service is also provided.

This project has been developed in partnership with Habinteg Housing Association, and is registered as a residential care home with the Western Health and Social Services Board.

Community support workers

We have community support and development workers who are based in three areas.  In these areas the support workers support deaf adults and young people who are most at risk and who cannot access general support services because of communication difficulties.
