RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

The Edzell Village Improvement Society rents out a charity shop in the village to different groups each month so that they can raise funds for a charity of their choice. Margaret Gray, 78, ran the shop and raised £1,930 for RNID Scotland.

Margaret wears two digital hearing aids and has experienced hearing loss for almost 20 years due to Meniere’s disease. She ran the shop in January together with her husband Donald, her daughter Vera Galt, Vera's friend Jess Christie and other volunteers.

Deirdre O'Flynn, Regional Communications Officer  said: "This was a big commitment for them as the shop is open seven days a week. Even though Margaret's month of running the shop is over she still volunteers there every Tuesday afternoon to help other people raise funds for their chosen charities."

Margaret was responsible for getting in stock to sell, staffing the shop, and looking after the money received. The rent for the Edzell shop was just £209 and all the funds raised through sales were donated to RNID.

At Margaret's request we will use the funds to purchase equipment so our clients can benefit by being able to test items before buying them.
