RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

Campaigning at Waverley Station

We're going to have a stall in Waverley Station for our new awareness campaign 'Imagine a world without sound’ (external link, opens new browser window) which is being launched during Deaf Awareness Week. A train station has many sounds that most people take for granted. So, with the help of our volunteers, we're going to use banners and placards to 'subtitle' the station - which will hopefully encourage people to imagine those sounds being absent. There will also be leaflets and badges to distribute.

Street collecting in Edinburgh City Centre

All our volunteers will be given a t-shirt to wear, a collection bucket and some sticky badges to give out to people. This might sound daunting, but it's actually quite fun!  We'll also give you a quick training session on before you head out, so you'll be well prepared.

How to get involved

We need volunteers for both tasks, so if you're available between 9am-5pm on Saturday 10 May, we'd really appreciate your help. It's a great chance to meet other supporters and to work together to achieve a valuable outcome. You will also be reimbursed your travel costs to and from Edinburgh.

To volunteer, email phyl.meyer@rnid.org.uk with the following information:

  • your name
  • telephone, textphone or mobile number (state if SMS only/preferred)
  • what times you are available
  • any previous relevant experience

We may also need people willing to take on an organisational role during the day. If you think this could be you, please let Phyl know.
