Scottish Council on Deafness (SCoD) was awarded funding from The Big Lottery Fund for the 2 year 'Improving the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Deaf and Deafblind People in Scotland' project. This project aims to increase deaf and deafblind peoples knowledge of counselling and confidence when accessing it, as well as improving access to mainstream counselling services.
There are only 7 counsellors in Scotland that are accessible for deaf and deafblind people. They are either Deaf British Sign Language users themselves for hearing, qualified to at least Level 2 BSL and deaf aware. By holding Counselling Training Pathways workshops it is hoped that more deaf and deafblind people will think about counselling training and in time boost the number of accessible counsellors. The workshops will be attended by tutors from institutions that provide counselling training and they will give more information about their courses. The information about these workshops are as follows:
