RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

The Forth Valley Sensory Centre is a place where we can improve people's quality of life by encouraging people to socalise and be inclusive. It is a purpose-built centre where information, advice and diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, practical help, training, education and equipment are available and easy to access. We aim to let people with a sensory impairment learn new skills, either on their own or through learning in a group.

Getting started

Following the publication of "Sensing Progress" in 1998 by the Scottish Office, a number of organisations met to look at the services available to clients with a sensory impairment in the Forth Valley area. After talking to service users it was agreed to build a new resource centre.

A company limited by guarantee with charitable status has been set up involving all interested parties. Organisations in the partnership include:

  • RNIB Scotland
  • RNID Scotland
  • Guide Dogs
  • Falkirk Council
  • Stirling Council
  • Clackmananshire Council
  • NHS Forth Valley.

Construction and building work started in August 2004 and the centre opened to the public in August 2005.
