RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

In health settings people said:

  • they are unable to schedule appointments
  • they miss appointments
  • important information and diagnosis isn't communicated properly.

On public transport people feel

  • they miss information on changes to timetables or platforms
  • induction loop systems are unavailable or don't work properly
  • health and safety systems are inappropriate or unavailable.

What are we campaigning for?

We are calling for:

  • visual displays and induction loop systems to be available and working in all areas of public access
  • all frontline staff, in public services, receive deaf awareness and equality training.

Communication does not have to be barrier. A few straight forward steps can ensure an equal level of access to all public services for all deaf and hard of hearing people and help service providers comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Disability Equality Duty (DED).
