years. recently I experienced an increase in deafness and an increase in my long standing (but bearable) tinnitus. This was accompanied by strings and choral music sounding very strident and unpleasant. I have tried Otek ear drops to no effect. Any ideas ? Symptoms are destroying my critical abilities in the work I do. So I feel near to panic. And please, no homeopathic remedies !

I too have tinnitus, and feel lucky not to have the musical symptoms you describe. I don't have any direct answers, but this problem is well discussed in Oliver Sacks' new book, Musicophilia. It may help to reduce your panic to read about others - and from my memory the perception of the problem (and sometimes the problem) does seem to decrease with time, in most cases he describes.
