Detail
I had the ringing + sounds like it was raining in my ears a few months ago but it went away when i managed to get my sleep in order. I then turned a television on last night but turned it straight off again due to that sort of sound being present, i removed myself from that room also but it was still there (the sound). It was horrific having it before + don't know how to get rid of it now or atleast lower it. I get bad anxiety anyway also so this sound didn't help + I ended up having a panic attack. I'm only 20 years old + my doctor said i was too young to get tinnitus so bit confused what it could be or is my doctor wrong?. Sorry for the essay but would appreciate any help that can be given.

First things first: It's probably not going to get worse. It probably is going to get better.

It is very important that you go to see a Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor. GPs don't know everything - your GP, for example, was actually WRONG. No-one is too young for tinnitus. So go see an ENT who can give you good, accurate information.

I've had panic attacks too, they're terrible! Make sure you've got good treatment for that too.

There is a treatment called Tinnitus Retraining Therapy that your ENT can tell you about. It's helped a lot of people, it might help you. It helps to teach your brain the difference between a real noise and a fake noise (which is what tinnitus is).

If you have an iphone you can get a TRT type app called itinnitus pro. Read the instructions carefully, and remember that there is no such thing as a silver bullet! I have used this app and, over time, it brought my tinnitus down a long, long way.

Good luck.

there is no one reason why tinnitus is brought on. It could be loud music, stress. I have it since the last 12 years, earlier I suffered from sleep loss now it is not so bad, try not to think of it and keep yourself occupied. Meditate and do some deep breathing for 10 minutes in the morning and night and it will sure help you better to cope with it.Unfortunately there is no cure for tinnitus.

No one is too young to get tinnitus, I know a few people that have had it all there lives. Luckily for them they know no different and it doesnt bother them.

Tinnitus can be caused by many things: infections, colds, noise exposure, jaw problems, head injuries etc. I think you should go back to your doctor and ask for a referral to an ENT so they can rule out any obvious causes. You should also get a hearing test.

Try and relax as anxiety makes it alot worse. Try not to think about it and keep yourself busy to keep your mind off it. Listen to music to try and mask it (not loud though).

Alot of people suffer from this and most of the time the cause is nothing serious.

Hope this helps.
