Hi folks,
I apologise uncoditionally if this has been already dealt with, but I cannot see anything.. (?) has anyone else (besides 'moi') experienced really bad irritation to the skin of the ear ? about where the hearing aids sit?
Also, hyper-sensitive small pimple type things appearing ?
ve been using various H/As now for years, but these latest moulds, are nice and soft and sort of pinkish, and feel great, but I am guessing that wearing them all day for months, has brought out this apparent by-product .?
Any knowledge/ advice ?
thanks & regards

It could be you are allergic to the rubber/silicone content: you would probably have had a more significant reaction.

What's quite common (apart from itchy heat rash) is that there is a bacterial build-up within the surface structure of your moulds or on the skin. As the bacteria build, they produce waste and it's the waste that causes inflammation. This is far more common with soft (well-sealed) moulds than the standard acrylic type.
Management: Have a word with the GP first just to check there's no eczema (or any thing else) there Emoticon: Winking smile.
Venting helps - but I guess your loss might get in the way here.
Keep your moulds as clean as possible, alcohol swabs are good as is regular claning with a mild detergent (baby soap) and proper rinsing.
If it's an option, rest (take it out) an alternate ear for an hour or so mid-day. This lets everything dry-out and calm down.
There are some proprietary gels (auragel) that may help, but if you manage the maintenance and exposure sides well, you should be able to handle it at source rather than deal with the effects.

Thanks for that Celtic hearing,

sounds like good common sense advice.

I've always had irritation from the moulds from the word go.it's a real pain! The hypoallergenic ones help to a point but really being on top of getting the aids off to let the skin breath is the best thing really...well for me anyway.

I learnt the hard way by not looking after my ears properly i ended up with cellulitis ..ouchie..not good!

Had lots of allergic problems in past year especially with hypo allergenic coated moulds eventually extra kind NHS technician suggested "Microplex moulds" with miraculous result.

I agree with Celtic Hearing - I haver only been wearing an Aid since the beginning of this year but after a very nasty ear infecion (treated with Otomise spray - prescribed) I now wipe my aid and my ear with a baby wipe or something similar every two or three days and don't "wash" the aid at all.
Seems to be working

My ear used to get very itchy with wearing a hearing aid but hardly ever bothers me now, when I have a bath I put some bubble bath in the water and lie back with my ears under the water and have a long soak, I have been doing this for years and it works for me but don't try it if you have a hole in your eardrum.

I get eczma in my ears due to wearing hearing aid moulds. I have been told that wearing the moulds (even the non allergic ones) means that I have a constant infection in my ears, which is damaging my hearing even more (I am borderline profoundly Deaf) so I was advised to have a BAHA (Bone anchored Hearing Aid) it is not as good as the post aurals, but it is a lot more comfortable. My hearing loss is bad enough that I can't hear with just the BAHA I have to have it attached to a body worn aid. I find that the body worn aid breaks a lot, but I would still advice you to maybe go to your ENT speciallist and discuss BAHAs. Good luck

When trying brand new aids I cannot seem to get the same crystal clear sound reproduction when listening to music, as I do with the aids I've had for 10 years. Any suggestions ?
