Why oh why?
Why do we have to put with such appalling treatment in NHS hospitals? I had an appointment at the eye department yesterday. The receptionist wass fine. The first nurse use such exaggerated lip patterns that it was impossible to lip read her. Then she was so patronising - it was embarassing. The second nurse was even worse - she resorted to yelling - I could feel her yelling at me. I tried to explain that I need to look at her when she talks to me. Screaming does not help. Then another nurse was gossipping about patients - but she did not realise I could lip read and she was being obnoxious about one of her patients. She then had the audacity to stand in whilst I was seeing the doctor - trying to be all over me. It was excruciating. None of the nurses todl me the results of their painful examinations. I had both eyes scanned but nobody mentioned the results.
In USA, they treat you as a real person. The doctor comes out and collects his patient personally. He knows your name. He is polite. The friend I was accompanying was medicare - the equivalent of NHS. The standard of treatment was excellent.

I sypathise with you. I was in hospital last October after a stroke. The nurse started to walk away from me at lunch time as she was giving the choice of meals. I only caught the first choice because her back was facing me by now. I asked her politly to stand in one spot and face me. She then made a great play on this dancing away singing la di da etc. I gave her a bit of a dressing down she was ok after that. Peter O
