Hi I've just read an article about a drug used for alcohol addiction called Acamprosate. Apparantly it may improve tinnitus in up to 83% of sufferers.
13% of people who took part in trials said their tinnitus disappeared. It isn't known whether the drug works by reducing excessive nerve activity in the brain that is responsible for tinnitus, or by reducing the person's awareness of the noise.
Has anyonelse heard of this drug?
Apologies if this has been mentioned in another thread already!!

Hi Pepsi,

I mentioned this in one of my first posts some weeks ago, but it seemed to be overlooked by most people! Emoticon: Sad smile

As far as I can make it, it''s one of the most promising possible Tinnitus treatments discovered so far, but still requires an awful lot of research before any medical application could be considered. ATR (the Association for Tinnitus Research) is campaining to raise funds at the moment to fund further research and development.

Hi Kaaman, I thought I'd read about it somewhere before!!
Lets hope something positive comes from it.

Hi,

Think I read somewhere the promising results about this study on a similar forum. Like Kaaman says, still needs a lot of research because alongside the figures you mention, I think around 20% of the participants reported side-effects, which is huge (a "satisfactory" side-effect rate for a treatment would be around 0.6%)
