Clicking in ear/jaw?

Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you ever get a clicking noise in your ear/jaw when you eat? I have been getting it quite alot the past 6/7 months coinciding with my tinnitus getting worse.

Maybe it is a complete coincidence or is stress related from my tinnitus getting worse.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

Thanks

I also have a clicking and painful jaw, it's related to stress, and can make the T worse. There are people on this forum who gone into the complicated treatment of T, but i find focussing on self hypnosis to stop grinding at night can be helpful

Hi K
I will attach some links to some web pages that may be of use to you regarding TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder) it is to do with your jaw joint and muscles.
This can make tinnitus worse and is one of the side affects of TMJ.
There are a few people on this forum that are having treatment for it and who have some useful advice. If you do a search using the t4 tinnitus web - http://www.t4tinnitus.com/searchRNID/?s=TMJ&sf=tinnitus&a= (external link, opens new browser window)
You may find some useful posts.
Also see the websites below for information:

Hope some of the information might be of use to you i am no expert i am still in the process of finding out if this is a problem i also have as when i move my jaw my t worsens and when i chew something really hard with my right my left joint on my jaw pops in and out and my t is really loud. I have also been told by my dentist i clench and grind my teeth in my sleep and i have a very tight and tense jaw muscle.

hi i have just had a guard made for my teeth to stop me grinding and clenching, as my dentist agrees that these things can make my T worse. i am wearing it for the first time today and have to build up to wearing it 24 hours a day until i get out of the habit of grinding and clenching. it has made me aware of just how much i was clenching as having my jaw in a normal position feels so abnormal at the moment!! it cost me £70 and 2 short visits to the dentist and i am hoping that it will help in the longrun.

K - I dont have alot of pain just a sore jaw sometimes and usually in the morning you dont have to suffer with alot of pain there are so many other symtoms from TMJ its worth investigateing.
Deb - My dentist recgonised i was grinding my teeth and said my jaw was tight and tense all he suggested was pain killers anti inflamitories and excercises and to stay away from chewy food! I asked about a splint or guard he told me to just sort the stress out and i might stop my teeth grinding - completely useless im at a loose end what to do as i think a guard would have relieve the stress in my jaw!!

Alana, i thought that it was a fairly cheap price to pay to try to help reduce my tinnitus. i don't know if it will help the T but if nothing else it will hopefully help to stop the pain in my jaw from constant clenching. my dentist said it is a habit like any other that needs to be broken. maybe you need to have a chat with a different dentist.

Depending on where you are but I know a few reputable TMJ dentists in London and the southeast.

One is Richard Casson who is based in central London.
Another is Poplar Dental based in Wimbledon.
Another is AJ Hedger dental Practise based in Leatherhead in Surrey.

I have constant pain and stress in my jaw. My dentist and the ENT doctor can't see any problems. The ENT guy looked down my throat etc. I feel though that it is TMJ and it is affecting my throat(I get pain there), and definitely is causing or is a cause, of the T. I can't handle the idea of a retainer.
