Hi

I would like ask comments about Mirtazapine. I should use it and helped me with sleeping and appetite. But now I don´t know that can I use it because someone had negative experience with that. I would like to know that can it worse tinnitus and hyperacusis.? Because some say that it makes t better / or nothing and some say it make worse. So I don´t know what to do. Now I haven´t use it because my hyperacusis is very bad so I don´t want to get it worse. It shouldn´t but does anyone have comments to that. Alex already did so thank you for it.

Actually, if you have Tinnitus, Mirtazapine (Remeron) is the only anti-depressent which is NOT known to cause or aggrevate Tinnitus.

I got severe Tinnitus from being on Trimpramin (Surmontil) !

Yes I know that it should not worse tinnitus.
But I´m asking because otherwise it has worked for me but now I´m too afraid of usinig it. Alex here on board had negative influence with that (worse T & H but not 100% sure that it was from this med).. So I want to know that has anybody else had problems after using it. ....Or positve results.

All I can suggest is you come off it for a month and see how things go, either try something else or if your able come off anti-depressants completely. I’m currently on a combination of nightol and valerian root for sleep. Has your tinnitus and hyperacusis got worse since being on the meds?

Matti, A few people including me have had success with Mirtazapine, It made my Tinnitus quieter and helped me sleep. It also made me put on weight which is why I stopped using it. Violet Dusk had success also but he stopped because it also made him put on weight. Give it another go,
Chris

I'm coming off it at the mo, because i didn't want to be on an a/d long-term. I can't really say if it affected my T or not but it does help with sleep.

Hi there,

I had great successs with Mirtazapine really - perfect and deep sleep, and my tinnitus was ridiculously reduced to the level I almost couldn't hear it.

This contrasts with Sertraline which I used once for 3 days and I ended up at the Doctor's desperate because my tinnitus went through the roof on that I nearly drove me insane. I am talking screaming loud over ambient sound.

There's two reasons I stopped taking the Mirtazapine - the first has to be the weight gain thing....which affected me bad. I don't know what it does internally, but it's not normal....causes massive water retention and chloesterol levels go through the roof. I was eating salad most days and jogging too, but it doesn't change it and I still felt bloated. The second thing is that I was a lot "mentally less alert" throughout the day....kind of there but not there, if that makes sense....a bit dreamy. Despite that though, I did function quite well and it did make me less anxious too.

It's a shame, I almost think it would be an ideal med for tinnitus if it wasn't the weight gain and drowsiness during the day. I stopped taking it because I like to remain slim and at the moment I am sleeping fairly ok again (well, not great but fairly good for someone with tinnitus!).

Hope that helps.
M

Oh yes, forgot to add....It made me very hungry, literally, all the time! I never was like that....so it is good for appetite loss, definitely, but you will have to keep an eye on what you eat. And even if you eat well, you still may put on a lot of weight.

Hi MJC did it also help with lifting your mood as an anti-depressant or did it only work solely as a sedating drug?

And was the weight gain obvious when you were taking the drug?
