I just wanted to tell my story and give some positive feedback. Hopefully give a wee ray of hope for those that are suffering with T after an infection.

So about a month ago i was just gettin over a bad head cold(have always suffered with bad sinuses) only to wake up one night to eeeeeeeehh! didnt think too much about it and went back to sleep only to wake up and find it was still there.
Really started to panic, the following 4 days i never slept or ate through sheer stress.
Decided to visit my GP who checked my ears, which were fine and he told me to try using a nasal spray to unblock my sinuses.
I didnt feel my sinusus were blocked so felt very skeptical about the nasal spray..but i persevered with it for the next 2 weeks and im very happy to say that this morning i woke up to beautiful silence.
I know how lucky i am and will never take my ears or silence for granted ever again!
I really found these forums a lifeline when i was feeling pretty low and i have nothing but admiration how you all cope with it. I really dont think there is enough awareness out there of this condition. No-one knows how awful it is unless theyve been through it. Love to you all and keep positive!

Oh gosh, congratulations! I wish it would happen for me. Has been almost a year now grrrr...

If I were you I would be staying away from loud places!
& I'm tempted to try some nasal spray myself now. Bit of a long shot but you never know.

Oh yeah definitely staying away from loud places, not takin any chances! I know theres a chance it could come back but tryin not to think about that.
I guess the spray worked because mine was sinus related so probably wont work for everone.
If its any use to you my gp suggested otrivine as it contains xylometazoline. It only costs a couple of pounds so maybe worth a shot!

Wow lynne. I'm so happy for you....you've been through the trauma of tinnitus and come out the other side. Congratulations.

Can I ask...did you notice any problems with your hearing? I've had t for a few months now. My MRI scan said that I had mucosal thickening in my sinuses but nobody told me to use a nasal spray or that that could be a cause of tinnitus. How often did you use the otrivine?

Did you have tinnitus in one or both ears? Was it in your head too? Mines in both ears and in my head and unfortunately the noise in the left ear actually gets stimulated by sounds so it can't be masked!

As far as im aware my hearing seems fine..i had the ringing in both ears but was slightly worse on the left side.
I used the spray once in the morning and before i went to bed for 2 weeks..
You say you have mucosal thickening, not sure if thats what i had as i had no scans or anything. Im no doctor so dont know if otrivine suitable or not. Its available without prescription over the counter so cant be harmful anyway, maybe give it a go nothing to lose i guess? Good luck

That's great news Lynne. About tinnitus going luck plays a part in it I guess. Were you ever expecting it to go?

Johannes  04 Jul 2009 22:52

Thanks Johannes, i actually thought i would always have it and didnt really expect it to go but was coming to terms with that anyway..
I went out for drinks for the first time in weeks last night, i was careful to go to quieter pubs but got some ringing back in the earlier hours of this morning but its gone now.
I guess its something im always going to have to be aware of and be careful with loud places.
