Hi,
I'm new to the site and have had Tinnitus for about 3 yrs. However, I've been scuba diving since 1992. I have found that when I dive to about 7 mts and deeper the Tinnitus stops. I've mentioned this to doctors and consultants and they look at me as if I'm stupid. Are there any of you out who also dive and if so does the TIN stop for you?
Has anyone been told not to dive because they have Tin?

Hi
I went scuba diving in April 2005, diving to approx 16mts. After the dive I experienced what I can only describe as temporary muffled hearing, after this I started to experience a high pitched whistling in my head. In June I went to my doctor who found that I had an infection in my right ear, this has now cleared up but the whistling is still there. I returned to my Doctor this week to discuss the whistling, he now describes my problem as Tinitus. I am planning to go diving in the Maldives in August. However, my Doctor has advised me that I should not dive until I have seen an ENT specialist.

Wow! A new tinnitus thread!!!

Welcome Jacko.

I don't dive (can't coz of middle ear issues Emoticon: Sad smile)

I'm not aware of tinnitus being a reason to "not" dive on its own. You'd be wise to ask a professional.

but I do know my tinnitus can be affected by pressure/weather.
Can't explain "why", but it happens.............

Enjoy your dive, but do get checked first. Emoticon: Winking smile

It would have to be the cause of the tinnitus preventing diving being safe. Although I suppose if they couldn't find the cause I can't see why people couldn't go diving. But then it does depend if they have issues with pressue change etc anyway ...

Can anyoone advise. I have recently got tinnitus and am wondering whether it was the diving that caused it. I noticed my tinnitus in the left ear 2 days after a dive?

Have not been diving since and am wondering I should stop completely?

Would be best to see your GP for referral to ENT if it isn't stopping. To get checked to make sure there is nothing "wrong".
Pressure can bring tinnitus on, as can pressure from going up in an airplane. I can't advise if it is temporary, I'm afraid........ My son has had temporary tinnitus on a couple of occasions. Emoticon: Winking smile
