In Tinnitus Today, Sept 2003,, a publication of the American Tinnitus Association, a study on zinc was reported. In a placebo controlled study, in Turkey,, 50 mg of zinc daily was taken leading to 82% of patients experiencing noise reduction. Patients with T and no hearing loss had significantly lower zinc levels than the non T volunteers. Ref" The Role of Zinc in the Treatment of Tinnitus" ,Otology and Neurology, 24 (1), 86-9. Otosclerosis is a disease of the middle ear bones. After 23 patients took calcitonin, a hormone that regulates calcium levels in blood, tinnitus disappeared in quarter of 23 patients. Not a placebo study as well. No citation on this one.

It's snake oil. Taking zinc will not help your tinnitus.

Philippa,
I know people who have been taking Zinc since Sept 2003 but still not cured of tinnitus. There is no cure.
Type Rank Bajin in Graham's search forum. This guy is a legend and has helped many people saving their money on placebo effects.
