RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

A tutor explains about deaf awareness training

We run two different sets of awareness courses. The first covers deaf and disability awareness, while the other focuses specifically on deaf awareness.

Deaf and disability awareness training

This course aims to raise awareness of what is meant by disability. Delegates will leave with an appreciation of the issues involved.

At the end of this course, your staff will be able to:

  • establish that disability means more than physical, sensory or learning disabilities
  • identify the issues and possible solutions so that people with disabilities are not discriminated against in the workplace
  • demonstrate an understanding of the medical and social viewpoints of disability
  • improve contact with people with disabilities, and highlight good and poor practices.

Deaf awareness training

This course aims to raise awareness of the barriers faced by deaf and hard of hearing people, and develops an understanding of how to overcome them.

At the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • identify the barriers that deaf and hard of hearing people face
  • list the ways in which deaf and hard of hearing people communicate
  • understand and demonstrate how to implement positive methods of communication, and offer an equal service to deaf and hard of hearing people.
