If you find it hard to use the internet with a standard computer setup then you may find it easier if you use assistive technology.
There are a number of options available if you think assistive technology might help. Demonstrations of some of these may be available on the internet or from the manufacturers. It is also worth asking other users for their recommendations.
Screen magnifiers work like a magnifying glass, making part of the web page larger and easier to read. Some screen magnifiers allow users to zoom in and out of a particular area of the screen.
Screen readers are software programs that output text and the ALT attributes of graphics as speech. Screen readers can also output items such as punctuation, buttons, menus and form labels.
Speech recognition software (also referred to as voice recognition) allows people to give commands and enter data by using their voice instead of a keyboard or mouse.
Text-to-speech systems output textual information as speech. An example use for a text-to-speech system is to allow visually impaired users to review information as they input it into a form.
Refreshable Braille displays allow users to read Braille letters with their fingers and refresh or change what is shown once the line is read.
Braille embossers create an embossed Braille printout so users can read through all the content of a page.
