    RNID owns and rents a number of different properties, some of which are owned in partnership with housing associations. We can provide purpose-built or specially adapted and renovated houses, bungalows and flats through our residential care and supported housing services.

    We do not provide a stand-alone counselling service, but we can provide or arrange counselling for our service users where required

    All of our services are for adults aged at least 18-years-old.

  • How do you decide if someone can have a place in your services?

    We have a full referrals and admissions procedure to make sure that potential users are offered the most appropriate service.

  • Can we visit your homes to have a look around?

    We would arrange a visit as part of initial discussions about a possible placement. Please see our referrals and admissions procedure for more information.

  • How do you determine the level of care for a potential service user?

    Following assessment we produce an individual care plan. This is reviewed regularly with the individual, family, advocates and social worker or care manager.

  • Are police checks carried out on your staff?

    All of our staff go through an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) check before their employment begins.

  • Are your staff fully trained and qualified?

    Our staff do a full range of training, including National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), with a special emphasis on communication and the particular needs of the service users.

  • Do you provide holidays for service users in your residential centres?

    Yes. They usually have one week a year, fully supported by staff.

    We can support holidays but they are not paid for by us.

  • Can family and friends visit those who live in any of your services?

    Yes. Service users are welcome to be visited by family and friends.

  • Do service users have keys to their own rooms or front doors?

    Yes. We fully support the independence of our service users and feel this is a fundamental right.

  • What do your service users do during the day?

    To increase their independence we encourage service users to take part in the running of their home and in the decision-making. There is also a programme of activities including, where appropriate, further education, vocational opportunities and leisure pursuits.

    Sign language skills are beneficial but not essential, as we give full training support.
