RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

This course covers general issues around deafness, with a focus on the barriers and solutions available when communicating with deaf and hard of hearing people.

  • Causes, statistics and terminology 
  • Understanding the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 
  • Defining social and medical models of deafness
  • Effective communication – lipspeaking and fingerspelling
  • Explaining that disability can be more than just a physical, sensory or learning issue
  • Identifying inclusion issues that people with disabilities face
  • Finding solutions to inclusion issues
  • Highlighting good and bad practice
  • Action Planning.

Your staff will learn to use basic communication skills and gain awareness of the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people when accessing your organisation's services, products or employment opportunities.

About our Trainers

All our training is delivered by deaf trainers who are experienced BSL users who provide personal examples of the issues deaf and hard of hearing people can encounter accessing organisations, and offer solutions that are both simple and effective.

Delivery of the training has a tremendous impact on delegates and they find the experience both enjoyable and fulfilling. 
 
Each delegate receives an RNID information pack that includes factsheets and fingerspelling cards. After training has been completed, a certificate of attendance will be issued by RNID.

Costs: Half day (3 hours) - £50 per person (inclusive of all course materials, provision of interpreters).
