What we do

Our community equipment service team make sure that people who have been diagnosed with a hearing loss can live independently, safely and securely in their own home. We do this by:

  • carrying out home assessments
  • providing alerting equipment such as door bells, smoke alarms, telephone alerters and baby cry alarms.

We also have a Community Support Officer (CSO) who provides support, information and technical advice to hearing aid users, their friends and family, and anyone who is finding it difficult to come to terms with a hearing loss.

The CSO also runs sessions in a number of locations across Buckinghamshire where you can come in for a chat and get help and advice about maintaining your hearing aid.

Using our service

Our service is available to:

  • people who are diagnosed with a hearing loss by an Audiology department
  • people who wear prescribed hearing aids.

You can contact us directly to arrange a visit for you or someone you know. If you are arranging a visit for someone else, you do need to have their consent. We also receive referrals from care managers, Home Care staff, audiology departments, GPs and other social and health care workers.

After we have been contacted we’ll arrange a date for the home assessment. We’ll call you before the visit to find out more about your situation so we have an idea about what equipment you may need.

During the visit our specialist Equipment Officer (EO) will:

  • make a full assessment to decide what equipment you need
  • provide any advice or information about other services
  • refer you to other agencies that may be able to help you.

We aim to have visited you within 28 days of being contacted.

Equipment loans

Any equipment we provide after the home assessment is on a free, long-term loan basis. You will be asked to sign a form, which gives information about the terms of the loan.

Information and advice

We can give group talks to local clubs or organisations.. The talk will include information on how the Equipment and Community Support service works, when and where to contact us and how to refer someone to us.
