RNID believes in empowering deaf and hard of hearing people to take action themselves, and has developed a pack to help.
You have rights under the Disability Discrimination Act. We believe in assisting you to know and use those rights.
We developed the online 'Know your rights packs'. These are information and self-advocacy packs, with factsheets to give you information and sample letters to help you write your own letter of complaint to a service provider.
We originally developed this to help people who use hearing aids to complain about difficulties with induction loops or infrared broadcast systems in public venues such as theatres, cinemas, courts or banks.
We have written a standard letter and a sample letter. The standard letter is a template, which shows different paragraphs you could use. You need to select the right paragraph for your situation. The sample letter can help you do this as it shows a letter that someone might write to tell the manager of a theatre, court or bank what difficulties they have experienced.
We offer a guide to using the Know your rights pack.
It would be useful for you to read these factsheets:
