RNID can help benefits advisers to support deaf or hard of hearing clients through our Legal Casework Service.
We can help you to support a deaf or hard of hearing claimant by providing information, including factsheets, and support.
If you haven't worked with a deaf or hard of hearing claimant before you may find it useful to read our factsheets on deafness. We also have a specific factsheet on Challenging Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance decisions. This has been written for representatives and benefits advisers who work with deaf and hard of hearing adults aged 16 and over.
We also providing information and support to individuals or organisations representing deaf or hard of hearing claimants. However, we can only do this in certain circumstances due to the high demand for our service. Contact us to find out if we can help you.
Our Legal Casework Service team works with representatives of other advice agencies to deal with policy issues affecting deaf and hard of hearing people. We also work with government to improve the quality of life of deaf and hard of hearing people. Check our list of useful organisations.
We have several factsheets on benefits, which may be useful even though many are written for claimants. You can find other information about working and communicating with deaf and hard of hearing people throughout this website: our Information resources section is a good place to start.
