RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

TalkByText allows staff to make and receive real-time, character-by-character text calls over the Internet using their PC. It replaces textphones, or minicoms, which can be expensive and difficult to use.

You don't need any new equipment to run TalkByText. To connect to your telephone network you can either run your own gateway server or we can provide this service.

What can you do with TalkByText?

  • Make and receive textphone calls.
  • Make text calls between PCs within your organisation.
  • Save or print your text conversations.
  • Create personal and corporate address books.
  • Assign people to teams to answer calls.
  • Forward text calls.
  • Set up answerphone messages.
  • Add functionality via plug-ins, such as send/receive SMS.
  • Customise it to provide just the services you need.

TalkByText is one reasonable adjustment you can make to meet the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). It gives textphone users access to your organisation or company through your existing network. TalkByText can be used in:

  • customer service centres
  • hospitals
  • council offices
  • or any organisation that receives large numbers of calls from the public.
