In recent years, scientists have made amazing progress towards understanding the biological basis of hearing loss and tinnitus, which will lead to much-needed medicines to protect and improve hearing, and to alleviate tinnitus.
We are playing a vital role in driving this field forward by funding promising research, training scientists and working in partnership with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Discover what research is being done to help deaf and hard of hearing people or people who have tinnitus. You can also download our 'Hearing the Future' booklet which explains what we hope research will deliver in the coming years or watch a video about hearing research.

The RNID research programme has been responsible for many important discoveries that are either already benefiting people with hearing loss, or are likely to do so in the future. Find out about some of the recent projects we have funded and meet our scientists. You can also read about the highlights of ten years of RNID biomdical research in our new 'Hearing Progress' (PDF 5.8MB) booklet.

We fund research into hearing loss and tinnitus to speed up the discovery and development of new drugs and treatments that will benefit people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have tinnitus. If you are working in this area, we could fund your project.
