RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

The projects should bring tangible benefits closer for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have tinnitus.

Summary of grant

  • Application deadline: to be announced in summer 2010 for PhDs starting in 2011/2012
  • Duration: three years or four years for established 4-year programmes
  • Eligibility: students and supervisors must be based at recognised UK universities or research institutes
  • Assessment: applications will be peer reviewed.

Application procedure

Download the guidelines and application forms from our last call (closed August 24 2009):

All applications will have to be submitted by the proposed supervisor.

Selection procedure

All submitted proposals are sent to three external referees, usually within the UK, who are asked to judge the scientific merit as well as the suitability of the project for a PhD student. These reviews and the original proposals are then considered by our PhD Review Panel. The panel discuss and rate each proposal. The top proposals are then put forward to RNID for funding.

We expect to award at least four new studentships each year. Applicants are notified of the outcome as soon as possible and we aim to do so before Christmas each year to allow successful applicants plenty of time to recruit a suitable student.
