RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

RNID’s biomedical research team exhibited in Atlanta, USA for the world’s largest biotechnology conference.

The team's aim was to raise awareness to the vast commercial opportunities that exist in developing medical treatments for hearing loss/tinnitus. Our brightly coloured earplug giveaways were used to further prompt interest in the field of hearing protection.

RNID met with numerous companies either involved in, or interested in developing therapeutics that could protect inner-ear hair cells, potentially re-grow such cells, and treat tinnitus.

RNID’s show fact file:

  • Around 2250 earplugs handed out to delegates
  • Over 300 new contacts made
  • 3 new groups identified developing novel therapeutics for hearing loss/tinnitus

RNID also launched a new market intelligence report at BIO International on Noise-Induced Hearing Loss. In this report, RNID outline how – if developed – a drug to protect hearing before or after excessive noise could be worth $1.9 billion a year to the pharmaceutical and health industries.

There are currently no licensed pharmaceuticals available to treat noise-induced hearing loss. However there are very promising lines of research that urgently need to be taken forward. RNID is offering to help pharmaceutical companies interested in exploring these market opportunities.

RNID now have five market intelligence reports available free of charge. Click here for more information.
