In March 2007, Scotland audiology waiting times were finally made public and show that in some areas people are waiting as long as 99 weeks.
After campaigning and lobbying, the figures were finally released because of the Freedom of Information (FOI) act. Conservative health spokesperson, Dr Nanette Milne MSP, made a request to every NHS board asking them to make their waiting times available to the public.
Earlier this year, Deputy Health Minister, Lewis Macdonald announced that audiology waiting times would be published in June. However, the current Scottish Government has not kept this promise. We're calling on the government to come clean and publish the figures. We believe people have the right to know how long they will wait for a hearing aid in Scotland.
The target for audiology waiting times is still 26 weeks. We believe it should be 18 weeks, the same as other consultant-led services.
We need your help to make sure that they reduce the target to 18 weeks. Have you had to wait longer than 18 weeks for a hearing test? If so email our campaigns team to tell us your story.
