RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

View of the Great Wall of China

Have you ever wanted to visit China? Well this is your chance. Not only will it be a fantastic life experience, but most importantly, you'll be making a difference to the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people all over the UK.

Why do it?

Deafness can be a forgotten cause but by joining our team you will help to raise awareness and money. Your support will help to change the world for the UK's 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people.

What will I do?

You'll explore different parts of the Great Wall of China in the hills around Beijing and go deep into the countryside away from the usual tourist spots. After the trek you'll discover the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Read the full itinerary.

What do previous Great Wall of China Trek participants have to say?

"I can't begin to tell you what an amazing trip it was. It truly was the trip of a lifetime AND it raised funds for a fantastic cause as well - truly a double whammy!

I will never forget a moment of it, from start to finish, and would strongly urge others to go for it and sign up for the trip next year because they will never regret it.

Fundraising isn't as hard as people think and it's amazing how supportive friends, family, colleagues and even complete strangers (my mum's hairdresser!) can be when they hear about such a challenge."

- Gordon Spence, Great Wall of China 2008 participant.

How much does it cost?

The fee is £250 and we ask all our trekkers to pledge to raise £2500 or more. We'll take care of all the arrangements and everything is included - accommodation, meals, back up, guides and flights. Due to popular demand - the special offer extended! Sign up by 31 March 2009 to benefit from a 15% discount off the registration fee.

Will I be able to raise enough money? Don't panic if you've never raised sponsorship before – we help you every step of the way. It might seem scary, but once you get started it's not that difficult. We'll be there to guide you and will share tips, ideas and the expertise of other fundraisers. Download a fundraising plan (opens new browser window).

How healthy do I need to be?

We welcome trekkers of all abilities. You can go at your own pace, although you do need to be quite healthy. But we can also provide training plans.

Who will I go with?

You'll be taking part in this challenge with at least 40 other people. It's a great chance to meet others.

Where will I stay?

Accommodation is just outside Beijing.  It'll be clean but basic.

What about food and drink?

Food and drink will be healthy and there will be lots of it. Snacks are also provided during the trek. We'll take care of any dietary requirements if you let us know before the event.

Do I have to have injections?

It's suggested that you have Tetanus and Hepatitis A inoculations, but you should always talk to your doctor for medical advice.

Do I need travel insurance?

You need travel insurance to take part – this is easy to organise. Classic Tours can recommend a policy or you can choose your own insurance company.

Can I extend my trip?

Yes! If you'd like to explore China more, it's possible to stay longer after the challenge has finished.

How do I get started?

It's simple. Just register with us and we'll send you a free event brochure. This doesn't commit you but will tell you everything you need to know. To register:
