Your donations help RNID to fund really diverse programmes; from running a free information line and employment service, to campaigning for deaf babies, to conducting research into age-related hearing loss. Every year RNID needs to raise around £17 million to ensure all our vital work can continue. That's why the support of our donors is so important - thank you for supporting our work.

Below are some examples of what your money helps RNID to fund, and the difference it can make to deaf people whatever their stage of life.

Babies

Did you know that every day in the UK two babies are born with a permanent hearing loss? See how your money can make a difference to deaf babies.

Children

For a child that cannot hear, developing speech can be very difficult, but thanks to you, RNID is working to make sure that these deaf children get the best possible start in life.

Young adults

Young deaf people are four times more likely to be unemployed than hearing people, even if that hearing person has a criminal record. See how your money can make a difference to young adults.

Older adults

One in two people over the age of 60 experiences hearing loss, and many of us will use hearing aids. Our supporters helped RNID to launch a major campaign to ensure digital hearing aids are available free on the National Health Service for all who need them. Find out how your donations help older adults.

Deaf people with additional needs

With your help we can provide specialist care, education and support to many deaf people with additional needs. 

People in need of support and information

Because of your generosity our helplines are there to answer questions people have on digital hearing aids and cochlear implants, or talk to people who feel very lonely and confused because they or a partner are going deaf and don't know what to do about it.

Helping future generations

Thanks to you RNID is able to fund vital research into age-related hearing loss to try to identify its causes.

What your money can buy

Check the list below to see the difference your donation can make:

  • £5 means our free information line can advise a caller.
  • £10 could help one of our deaf clients fill in a job application or practise for an interview.
  • £15.70 could pay for a baby to be screened for hearing loss.
  • £25, or just £2 a month, could go towards buying essential equipment for one of our research projects.
  • £60, or just £5 a month, pays for our Education Service to work with teachers and their deaf pupils to help students develop their full potential.
