Why do some people go deaf as they get older but not others? 1 in 2 of us will have a hearing loss as we get older, but could there be a genetic reason?
RNID is funding vital research into age-related hearing loss to try to identify its causes.
Our research is so exciting because it has the potential to change millions of lives if we were to find the causes of age-related hearing loss and develop treatments and preventative measures. It could help older people like Julia, 75, who says "For years I would never admit that I was hard of hearing ... I wonder if normal hearing people understand the stress and loneliness a deaf person has ..."
Each research project costs around £30,000 a year and can only continue through the generous support of our donors.
