RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

University libraries have more than just books! Libraries or learning centres usually have the following:

  • electronic information resources – electronic journals/databases etc
  • videos and DVDs
  • computers and printers/scanners
  • photocopiers.

The library may also have a stationery shop and video camera and editing facilities.

Some university libraries are now open 24 hours. Check your university website for more information.

Tips:

  • There will usually be a librarian responsible for your subject.
  • There might be a librarian responsible for the needs of deaf/disabled students who can answer your questions.
  • Check for any special services for deaf students e.g. extended loan periods.
  • You might be able to request the recording of subtitled TV programmes or videos.

You may also want to refer to the RNID library which specialises in literature covering deafness and hearing loss, click here for more information.
