Who can use the service?

Both deaf and hearing people can use the service. If you want more information on a particular service or would like to book communication services, please contact your nearest regional RNID branch. They will be happy to help find the most suitable service for you. You may need to consider more than one kind of communication service, for example a sign language interpreter and notetaker for a large meeting or event.

When do I need communication services?

Communication services can be booked for all types of situations, including:

  • Appointments (doctor, hospital, bank, social services)
  • College or university interviews or meetings
  • Job interviews/training courses
  • Meetings at work
  • Conferences
  • Weddings
  • Community events
  • Solicitors' meetings
  • Court work
  • Benefits agency (DSS) appointments

Confidentiality

All interpreters are bound by a strict code of practice and everything that is said in an assignment is strictly confidential. Interpreters are completely impartial and will not be able to give advice or views whilst working with you.
