RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

About this book

Written and developed by influential teacher of the deaf, Patricia Neville, this book has been produced to encourage tutors who have deaf students in their classes. It is intended to support Access for All. We hope it will:

  • suggest ideas to explore
  • encourage tutors to experiment with a variety of visual approaches
  • help tutors make use of deaf students' linguistic skills.

This expanded and improved version includes a dedicated section containing advice and tips to help teachers who are currently teaching, or who plan to teach, literacy skills to deaf and hard of hearing people. The book contains practical advice on how to communicate with a deaf or hard of hearing person when teaching, and suggests inspiring activities for lessons. The book also outlines in detail the adult curriculum, and offers individual learning plans, which can be tailored to each student.
