TMJ and tinnitus - a joint condition

'TMJ' stands for temporomandibular joint - small but complex joints lying just in front of the ears. They enable the opening and closing of the mouth, chewing, speaking and swallowing. Over the last 20 years, there has been increasing interest in TMJ disorders and their associated problems, which may include tinnitus.

Therapist heal thyself!

Peter Delves talks about his personal experience of applying EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to tinnitus. Although relatively new to the UK, EFT has been around since the late 1990s. It was developed in the US and has its roots in kinesiology, acupuncture and psychology. EFT is about balancing the body's energy system to target the feelings you want to change. It's a bit like clearing a log that's blocking a stream - the log represents a stuck emotion in your stream of energy.

Hypnotherapy and tinnitus

Charles Vald, a professional hypnotherapist and member of the British Institute of Hypnotherapy, writes about the emergence of hypnosis and how it came to be officially accepted as a legitimate treatment method for medicine and dentistry. Hypnotherapy in itself is not a cure for tinnitus.  However, it may help patients reduce their awareness of tinnitus and any adverse reactions that may result from it.
