Not only does the Humax PVR-8000T80 let you receive Freeview digital TV and digital subtitles, but you can also record them on the built-in 80 gigabyte hard disk giving up to 40 hours of recording time.

A useful feature of this product is "time shifted recording". If you are disturbed during a programme you simply press the record button and it immediately starts recording it. The clever bit is that when you return you can continue watching from where you left off while the product is still recording the live programme.

It's quite easy to select digital subtitles on this product and there is a separate subtitles button on the remote control. You have the option to automatically have subtitles displayed, if available, and they appear on each new channel swiftly. If you record a programme without the subtitles selected then they will not appear on your recording. However, if you record with the subtitles on they will be recorded in closed format. This means that when watching the recording you can turn the subtitles on and off at will.

We were impressed by the excellent recording quality of this product: it looked exactly the same as the original broadcast. Our users found it reasonably easy to set up and use, and it has a good remote control unit. The only real drawback was that it only has one tuner, which means that while recording a digital channel you can only watch that same programme or an analogue one.

Please note that this product is designed for Freeview digital TV, so won't record analogue TV and 888 subtitles.
