RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

You could be forgiven for thinking that this smart, modern looking product is yet another trendy, must-have lifestyle accessory. But in fact it’s the new RNID Smoke Alarm designed to keep you safe, be easy to use and look attractive in your home.

RNID white smoke alarm

This product was designed from the very beginning with the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people in mind. During the lengthy design process potential users were consulted about every aspect of the usability from the layout of the indicator lights to how they might install the product in their home.

We’ve tested this important new product and identified these key features:

  • user friendly design with clear labelling, buttons have good colour contrast and indicator lights are bright and easy to see
  • there is a handy user guide built into the unit which you simply slide out to read. It explains what the indicator lights mean and gives important contact information in case of any problems
  • detectors, vibrating pads or any other accessories all connect into a separate junction box which then connects with the main unit by a single wire.  This avoids the clutter and inconvenience of having all these wires connecting to the main unit by your bedside
  • the bright strobe light, powerful vibrating pad and loud audible alarm should alert you to any warnings from the smoke alarm system
  • designed to comply with the British Standard, Smoke Alarm Systems for Deaf People BS 5446-3:2005
  • can be mounted either on a table-top or on the wall
  • up to 100 hours of standby cover in the event of a mains power failure

The RNID Smoke Alarm is available as a complete system including the base unit, junction box, ionisation smoke detector, vibrating pad, mains power adaptor and full instructions. You can buy this from our online shop, or from the Solutions Catalogue, priced £88 ex VAT or £103.40 inc VAT.
