Non means-tested benefits

You can claim the following non means-tested benefits because of your deafness, physical or mental disability, or if you are sick:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • War Disablement Pension.


Means-tested benefits

If you don’t have enough money to live on, you may be able to claim a means-tested benefit. This means that how much you get will depend on your income and savings and whether you are claiming for any dependants who live with you.

You may be able to claim these benefits:

  • Community care grants from the Social Fund
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Council Tax disability reduction scheme
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Tax Credits (Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit).
