We have received three grants, which will help us to provide support to deaf and hard of hearing people and people with tinnitus to find a job.
In August 2006 the Yorkshire office of Lloyds TSB Foundation gave us a one-year £20,000 grant for England and Wales. This will cover some of the costs of running our Employment, Training and Skills Service (ETSS) in Sheffield, which gives advice and help for deaf and hard of hearing people looking for jobs in South Yorkshire.
We have received a £15,900 donation from Barclays, which will be used to set up job clubs in South Wales. The money will allow RNID Cymru to hold 40 job club sessions that provide advice on topics including:
Barclays community services manager Kathy Brown said: "We aim to strengthen the communities in which we work and use our expertise to tackle social issues, such as helping people get back into work. So we are delighted to support these job clubs, which will make a real difference to deaf and hard of hearing people's lives."
We have received a £30,000 grant from the Vodafone UK Foundation to trial a new outreach service.
Videophones will be installed in our ETSS offices in Bath and Derby, as well as community venues in Newark and Trowbridge, so people can contact our employment advisers using sign language. Sharon Brookes, our employment manager for the South West, said: "We are very excited about this project and grateful to the Vodaphone UK Foundation. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to trial a new way to provide a more accessible service to clients who live in rural areas and areas away from our central offices."
