"Fantastic writing that handles issues sensitively and with total confidence. Liz and Doug's story is one anyone and everyone can relate to - and that's the magic of this book. I couldn't put it down." (Rae Earl, author of My Mad, Fat Teenage Diary)

The Give Me A Sign teen blog (external link, opens new browser window) launches at the start of Deaf Awareness Week 5-11 May 2008.
Follow the fictional web diary of 16-year-old Liz, and post your views for others to read!
Bullied at school, unhappy at home and seriously lacking in self-esteem, 16-year-old Liz's world is transformed when she meets Doug, who is deaf. But can their relationship survive the clash of culture between deaf and hearing worlds?
On the Give Me A Sign blog, the novel's narrator, Liz will share her feelings for Doug and invite your comments.
The blog which will run for 8 weeks, will be an opportunity for young people to think about how deaf and hearing people communicate. All young people, deaf or hearing, are encouraged to post comments on the blog to share experiences and views and stimulate debate. The blog may also be of interest to parents and educators.
Give Me a Sign, a novel for young adults, by Shanta Everington will be published by Flame Books on 1 July 2008.
