RNID: For deaf and hard of hearing people.

Camden Council and Frank Barnes School are excited to be hosting their first-ever joint conference on the future of deaf education in London, which they very much hope you will be able to attend. The one day event on Thursday, 7 May will bring together leading national experts and local professionals to address issues including:

  • Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) and the early identification of deafness;
  • parents’ responses and expectations of their child’s communication development;
  • how professionals can best support parents during early diagnosis;
  • what provision is needed in a new school for the deaf;
  • effective early communication for young deaf children;
  • meeting the needs of deaf children with cochlear implants.

As Camden Council and local partners develop an overall vision for deaf education and services for children with learning difficulties and disabilities, it is important to address some of the key issues that will shape future provision.

Working with Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children, they have brought together some of the leading authorities in the field for this conference, which they believe will be both thought-provoking and valuable in helping us to plan for the future.
